The United States produced some 5.13 million metric tons of apples in 2018, making apples the second most produced fruit in that country, behind grapes but ahead of oranges. The second leading producer of fruit, was India, followed by Brazil. China is the leading producer of fresh fruit by a large margin. Between 20, the volume of fruit produced worldwide grew from 750.5 million metric tons to about 887 million metric tons. The global production volume of fruit has been steadily increasing over the last two decades. The European Union came in second place with about 12.28 million metric tons of apples. During that time period, China’s apple production amounted to almost 46 million metric tons. In the 2021/2022 crop year, China was the leading producer of apples worldwide.
